Event Details
Artificial Intelligence (AI), and more specifically machine/deep learning (ML/DL), opens up promising prospects for aviation as in many other fields. However, it raises the crucial question of the level of confidence that can be placed in these techniques when used in safety-critical applications and their compatibility with strict certification requirements.
In February 2020 the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) published its roadmap to accompany the deployment of AI in aviation. In December 2021, EASA published a first major roadmap deliverable, and in April 2021 a concept paper providing 'first usable guidance for Level 1 machine learning applications', anticipating future EASA guidance and requirements for AI/ML applications.
