The world will be celebrating women in March, with the theme for this year's International Women's Day being, 'Breaking the Bias'.


Join us for an engaging conversation with key leaders from the Singapore aviation and aerospace sectors representing diverse voices. Hear their views on the representation of women in aviation and aerospace in Singapore. Listen in as they share their experiences on career development and overcoming challenges. Be part of an important discussion on diversity, inclusion and breaking biases in the workplace.

    Ms Marie-Louise Philippe is the Founder and President of Women in Aviation International Singapore (WAI SG) which she co-founded with industry experts early 2021. The association has seen rapid growth over the past months yielding in more than 70 members and is supported by major aerospace companies.

    Marie-Louise Philippe has been a successful professional and leader in commercial aviation with Airbus for the past 20 years. Prior to moving to Asia in 2014 she has worked in different areas of the Airbus Group like Financing, Procurement and Airbus Helicopters. In 2008 she joined the Commercial Aircraft Sales department and has successfully led sales campaigns in Central and Northern Europe supporting airlines in their growth and fleet replacement strategies.

    Ms Philippe has been living with her family in Singapore and Hong Kong since 2014 where she has taken up a Senior Sales Director role leading multifunctional sales and operational teams across the APAC region delivering value to airline customers.

    Marie-Louise Philippe holds a degree in Business Administration and Economics from the Vienna School of Business and has received a Master in International Management from CEMS. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of H3Dynamics, a Singapore based company, engaging in sustainable, hydrogen powered solutions.

    Marie-Louise's passion is to inspire by being an inclusive and diverse leader. She mentors and promotes women, youth and aviation professionals in navigating a successful career in aviation.

    Oliver Chamberlain has been at Rolls Royce for 21 years, in various Operations, Improvement, Quality and Customer Facing roles.

    Oliver started as a craft apprentice in the UK and completed his apprenticeship as a machinist. He then worked in Manufacturing Engineering for a number of years whilst performing varying roles in the leadership structure. During this time, he became an accredited Lean Sigma Black Belt and completed a 5-year part-time degree in Mechanical and Computer Aided Engineering. He later continued with part-time studies, earning an MSc in Operations Excellence from Cranfield University.

    Oliver has held a number of different leadership roles in Rolls-Royce, having extensive exposure to Boeing and Airbus. He is also lead facilitator for the High Performance Culture programme rolled out across the company, where he continues to be a master facilitator.

    Having visited Singapore for short periods previously, Ollie admired the culture and structure around Aerospace development. He moved out to Singapore with his wife and two daughters in June 2021 in the role of Manufacturing Executive in Fan Blade Singapore with the goal of developing the facility to deliver the increase and complexity in load, through its people and technology.

    Oliver serves in the management committee of the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore), using his experience of engaging people, developing technologies and partnerships to influence policies and strategies for the advancement of the industry.

    Susan graduated from NTU’s School of Electrical Electronic Engineering in 2015 and joined SIAEC's Aircraft Maintenance Licence Trainee Programme in 2016.

    Upon the completion of the programme in 2020, she was appointed as an Executive Engineer and supported aircraft preservation works as airlines grounded their fleet during the pandemic. She was also in project teams undertaking continuous improvement initiatives. With the steady recovery of flights, Susan is now a practising Licensed Aircraft Engineer, ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft for flight.

    As Vice President of Strategy and Innovation for UPS in Asia Pacific, Wai Kuan Leong is responsible for developing and driving strategic initiatives across the business as UPS looks to continuously strengthen its presence as a logistics leader in the region. The role sees her and her team evaluating a broad range of opportunities that allow the company to capitalise on and improve connectivity between the global and intra-Asia UPS network and the markets served within the region.

    A chartered accountant with the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, and business process management specialist with the Association of Information and Image Management (AIIM), Wai Kuan has more than 20 years’ experience in strategic business planning and development, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and all aspects of finance, accounting and tax including complex group consolidation and reporting, tax structuring and optimisation.

    Wai Kuan joined UPS in 2017 as Asia Pacific Strategy and Innovation Director, where she was responsible for developing and leading inorganic growth strategies, evaluation of opportunities for acquisitions or alliances, and spear-led innovation initiatives for the region. She took on the Transportation District Controller role in 2019 and was instrumental in the creation of a series of financial models and simulation tools for faster decision making when it comes to determining the required level of flying and dynamic pricing on cargo opportunities. She was promoted to her current position in September 2020.

    A native of Singapore, Wai Kuan started her career as an auditor and subsequently moved to Ernst & Young in China, where she initially worked as an auditor before moving on to set up the company’s distressed assets advisory practice, providing financial guidance to Chinese state-owned banks and asset management companies. She subsequently relocated to Hong Kong to join Société Générale, once again overseeing distressed assets acquisition, and operations and investment compliance with the principal finance and equity investment division.
    Prior to joining UPS, Wai Kuan was the Director of Strategy and Planning at IMC Industrial Group in Singapore where she oversaw the strategy, development and operationalisation of the bulk supply chain business model.

    Wai Kuan holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Outside of work she is a regular volunteer at her local church where she helps organise various children’s activities and senior citizen outreach programmes.
