The Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) (AAIS) in collaboration with the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CSAA) is pleased to present the China-Singapore Bilateral Aviation Forum 2024. Held in conjunction with Singapore Airshow 2024, the Forum promises a lively discussion and exchange on technological innovation and opportunities for international cooperation in this global industry. 


Industry leaders representing Chinese and Singapore-based companies will participate in two panel discussions and three keynote presentations:


1) TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN AVIATION

Hear industry leaders discuss priorities for the aviation industry in the post-pandemic era, where Sustainability, Digital Transformation and Supply Chain Resilience are spurring investments in technological innovations and opening up new opportunities for international cooperation.


2) DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW OF THE AEROSPACE MRO AND MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

As the global air transportation industry recovers from the pandemic and gears up for growth, the strong demand for manufacturing and MRO capacity is creating challenges with regards to supply chain and talent availability. Hear from industry leaders on how these challenges and opportunities are reshaping development plans, industry structure, business strategy and models globally, with particular reference to the Chinese and Singapore aerospace industries.

    Secretary General at Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics

    Dr. Junchen Yao, is currently the Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics(CSAA). He majored in metal materials and thermal treatment and gained his master degree from Beihang University (BUAA) in 1988. During 2002-2006, he pursued his doctor degree at BUAA. Dr. Yao was Deputy Division Director at the Science and Technology Bureau of Aviation Industries of China. He later on took the duties of Deputy Director at the Science and Technology Department of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China 1(AVIC 1), Director at the Department of Scientific Research of AVIC Foundation Technology Research Institute, Director of the AVIC Changcheng Institute of Metrology & Measurement.

    Dr. Yao has been tracking the frontier of aeronautical materials during his position with AVIC headquarters. He has chaired and participated in quite a few key projects. He has rich experience in management and knowledge in aeronautical systems and development. He also published the 11th Five- Year Plan for Aeronautical Science Foundation.

    Yue Jeen was elected AAIS President in 2021 and re-elected in 2023 for another term. As AAIS President, he looks forward to driving the development of the aerospace industry in Singapore through the AAIS, with continued focus on sustainability, people development for the future and creating a platform for the industry anchored on the OEMs and major MRO players as well as a pipeline for SMEs to contribute to the growth of the industry.


    Yue Jeen has been with SIAEC since 2008 in various roles including aircraft and components services, base maintenance and engine services. Currently in the Business Development and Partnership Management Portfolio since 2020, he is responsible for managing JVs and new business setups and investments.

    Dr. FU Jian, graduated from Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse, Institute Clément Ader (ICA, CNRS UMR 5312), mainly engaged in the research of "recent advances in aerospace actuation systems and components", he focuses on the green aerospace and more electric aircraft, working on the modeling theory of electromechanical and electrohydraulic actuation systems, electrically drive and servo control technologies. He is currently a member of SAE International Aerospace Actuation, Control and Fluid Power Systems (A-6), a Committee member of the Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology (APISAT), and vice executive secretary of the Society of Intelligent Aerospace Systems (SIAS) of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He published more than 60 communications in journals and international conferences and presided over more than 30 projects of national and aerospace institutes.

    Desmond Goh is currently the Managing Director, Asia Pacific for Eaton’s Aerospace Group. He is responsible for the overall Aerospace business across the region, including commercial, technical, operational and corporate functions. In this role, he also has responsibility for driving organic and inorganic growth for the business, including long term strategy, capability development and government/industry engagement for the business.

    Desmond had joined Eaton Aerospace in 2019 as its Regional Director, Commercial Aftermarket & Military Business for the APAC region, where he was responsible for leading the regional team to grow the business across the Eaton Aerospace product line, and deliver exceptional customer support to all its customers in the region.

    Prior to joining Eaton, Desmond was the General Manager, Customer Support & Business Strategy in Eagle Services Asia (Pratt & Whitney/SIAEC JV) and was responsible for leading the customer support team to support a worldwide airline customer base. He developed new business strategies for the engine aftermarket business and led the contract negotiations for various sales campaigns on the PW4000, GP7200 and PW1100G engines.

    Before Pratt & Whitney, Desmond was with Rockwell Collins, where he held various roles in Strategy Development/M&A, Sales & Marketing and Program Management, based in both Singapore and Iowa, USA. His last role in Rockwell Collins was Director, Airborne Solutions in Asia Pacific, and led a cross-functional team to manage the P&L and grow the portfolio’s regional business. Desmond had also served in the Republic of Singapore Air Force as an Air Engineering Officer previously.

    Desmond is also an elected Management Committee member of the Association of Aerospace Industries Singapore (AAIS) since May 2020.

    He obtained his Master of Business Administration (with High Honors) degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Both his Master of Science (ORSS prize winner) and Bachelor of Engineering (with Honors) degrees were awarded by the National University of Singapore.

    Henry Hooi is the Founder and Executive Chairman of pH Capital Limited, a Hong Kong-based boutique advisory company he formed in 2013. pH Capital focuses on meaningful societal impact projects in a number of verticals including food security, green mobility solutions, healthcare, and media tech.

    In green mobility solutions, Mr. Hooi has founded a Hong Kong-based green aviation company, Volar Air Mobility Limited seeking to commercialize the world’s first electric multi-seater aircraft and to develop a pioneering AI-enabled flight management system for green private aviation.

    Before setting up pH Capital, Mr. Hooi held various roles in the banking industry, including the Chief Risk Officer for Standard Chartered Bank Taiwan, Managing Director for Cushman & Wakefield Capital Asia. Mr. Hooi is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director and chairs Audit Committees for a number of companies in Singapore (Neon Global (previously known as Cityneon), and Hong Kong (Volcano Spring International Holdings Limited and Frontier Services Group Limited, both HKSE- listed companies).

    Mabel Kwan is currently a Managing Director at Alton Aviation Consultancy, an aviation management consulting firm, where she advises on business strategy and investments. She has close to 20 years of experience in strategy, investment and business development in the aviation and travel industry. During her career, she was involved in the investment, asset management and divestment of several aviation companies such as airports, lessor and airlines, including in setting up the first low cost carrier in Singapore. Her views on sustainability, aviation market trends, airport economics and operational innovation have been featured in international and regional publications and industry conferences.

    Prior to joining Alton, Ms. Kwan was Managing Director of Investments at Changi Airports International (CAI), where she was responsible for driving the investment strategy of CAI and designing holistic solutions for CAI’s partners in airport management and development. She was instrumental in setting up the first airport investment platform in Asia with leading institutional investors and led teams to successfully bid for airport concessions in the Middle East & Asia Pacific.

    Ms. Kwan began her career in Singapore Airlines as a company planner, and subsequently held roles of Associate Director (Investment) at Temasek Holdings, and Director of Development (Asia) at Hilton Worldwide.

    Ms. Kwan spends time outside work to mentor start ups and on charitable initiatives. She is a board director on Women In Aviation, Singapore Chapter, a non profit organisation dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive aviation industry.

    Prof Ren He holds the titles of fellow of the Engineer Institution of Australia and a Foreign Member (Academician) of the Russian Academy of Engineering (RAE).

    Mr So was appointed Senior Vice President Corporate Planning & Continuous Improvement on 1st February 2023. Prior to his latest appointment, he was Senior Vice President Transformation and Technology. In addition to innovation and technology, and the Enterprise Continuous Improvement Office, he is also responsible for corporate planning and supply chain management.

    Mr So joined SIAEC as an Executive Engineer, specialising in airframe systems and aircraft structures. Between 2011 and 2015, he held various senior positions in Engineering and Fleet Management Divisions, including Vice President Engineering and Fleet Technical Management. He was the accountable manager for the design organisation under CAAS and EASA approval. He assumed the position of Vice President Transformation Office in 2017. Besides supporting operations with technical solutions, he was in charge of spearheading strategic and innovative plans for digitalisation and technology adoption across all divisions in SIAEC.

    Mr So was on the board of several aerospace companies in Singapore including Additive Flight Solutions Pte Ltd, Component Aerospace Singapore Pte Ltd, Jamco Aero Design & Engineering Company and Jamco Singapore Private Limited.

    Mr So sits on the Council of the Institution of Engineers Singapore and held various appointment including chairman of the Aerospace Engineering Technical Committee and the Vice Dean of College of Fellows. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore and is a Chartered Engineer.
