The Antonov-124 was designed in the 1970s and was the world's heaviest production cargo airplane by gross weight, for 30 years. A flying giant, the Antonov-124 has been the workhorse of the Volga-Dnepr group for almost as many years. AAIS is delighted to bring you an exclusive first-hand look at this iconic aircraft, in cooperation with Volga-Dnepr group and our member, Air Freight Logistics Singapore Pte Ltd.

Mr. Vladimir Vyshemirskiy, Volga-Dnepr Load Planning Manager, who has been with the company since 1991, and Mr. Evgeniy Maksharov, Sales Executive at AirBridgeCargo Hong Kong, will be our guides on this tour. You will learn about the Antonov-124's development, technical specifications, cargo-carrying capacity, limitations, and its loading methods. Its capability to transport unique and outsized cargo, combined with outstanding engineering and loading solutions have given its proud operator, the Volga-Dnepr group, truly unique capabilities.

    Robin Thevathasan has been consulting on local and international projects since January 2018 when he retired from 33 years of service with the ST Engineering Group. He chairs a COVID-19 Taskforce for AAIS to help manage issues affecting the aerospace industry. He worked for several years as stress engineer in Europe (British Aerospace & Fokker Space) and with ST Engineering he undertook various engineering functions, Strategic Planning, International Business Development, secondment to DSTA (a Ministry of Defence Statutory Board). Prior to retirement he was involved in Change Management of a Group-wide Shared Services project.

    His qualifications : Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia (1974), Master of Science in Aircraft Design from the Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK (1979). He also has a Graduate Diploma in Financial Management, Singapore Institute of Management (1998) and attended the Programme for Executive Development, International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Lausanne, Switzerland.

    Load Planning Manager at Volga-Dnepr

    Vladimir Vyshemirskiy, Volga-Dnepr Load Planning Manager, is one of the company's most experienced experts. He has worked in the company since 1991, having profound experience in the operation of Antonov-124-100 radio-electronic equipment, cargo planning and outsize cargo transportation.

    Vladimir was a member of the first technical crew flying on Antonov-124 aircraft when it started to make commercial international flights. For over 28 years he has provided technical support of complex Volga-Dnepr transportation projects. He led the team that created Volga-Dnepr Engineering-Logistic center, which provides multi-modular transportation solutions delivering heavy, outsized cargo to the required destinations on time, and optimizing customers’ expenses.

    Evgeniy Maksharov, Sales Executive, AirBridgeCargo Hong Kong, began his path in the logistics industry with Volga-Dnepr’s trainee sales program back in 2017. This had helped him to gain essential knowledge and skills at transportation of cargo by air.

    Following successful completion of his training, Evgeniy was assigned to support the Asia Pacific team remotely from headquarters in Russia. His growing expertise and hard-working attitude eventually brought him to Hong Kong, where he helped to further strengthen the company’s footprint in the region. Although only at the beginning of his career, Evgeniy has already handled more than 120 charter flights utilizing all types of aircraft available in Volga-Dnepr Group’s fleet. In his current role, his key responsibilities include sales, business development, maintaining relationships with existing customers, plus streamlining of internal and external processes.
