SG UAS Community Networking
On 11th October 2024, the Singapore UAS Community gathered at Brotzeit, Vivocity, for a lively Oktoberfest-themed networking event, generously sponsored by Frequentis. The evening kicked off with participants enjoying the specialty Oktoberfest drinks and free flow of delicious meat platters.
One of the event's highlights was the Stein Holding Competition (Masskrugstemmen), where David from Republic Polytechnic, Sebastian from Heron Airbridge, and Edmund from ADAM went head-to-head. With sheer determination and endurance, David triumphed, holding his steins (filled with water) with a straight arm for the longest time.
Meanwhile, Levinia from Skyports, Diane from MicroNav and RSAF Angelin engaged in a friendly yet fierce competition of Hammerschlagen, attempting to drive a nail into a wooden stump. Levinia emerged victorous with impressive skill and speed.
The night ended on a high note, with everyone raising their steins/ drinks for a traditional Oktoberfest toast, celebrating a successful evening of fun, networking, and camaraderie. |

Joint Defence Innovation Challenge
Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the United States Department of Defense (DoD) have launched a joint defence innovation challenge to seek novel maritime security and Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) solutions. We highlighted this opportunity when the two organisations signed an MOU earlier this year, and now it's ready to roll!
The joint challenge consists of two opportunities to identify and scale dual-use technologies for operational demands: First, the challenge seeks to help ships operating close to shore continuously detect, track, identify, and disrupt unauthorized drones. Second, it seeks to provide resilient communications with small commercial drones during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions.
