CAAS sets up International Centre for Aviation Innovation

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore announced on 10 January 2024, the set up of an International Centre for Aviation Innovation (ICAI) to promote the development and implementation of technologies for the aviation industry. The ICAI aims to address the growing demand for air travel by conducting research and development (R&D) in four key areas: next generation air navigation services, automated and smart airports, unmanned aviation systems, and sustainable aviation.

In particular, with regards to unmanned aviation, ICAI will develop and implement new operating concepts to integrate air traffic management for unmanned and manned aircraft while facilitating safe and secure adoption of advanced air mobility technology in urbanized and densely populated areas.

Drones & Uncrewed Asia 2024

6 & 7 March 2024, Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore

The inaugural Drones & Uncrewed Asia (DUCA) 2024, to be co-located with Geo Connect Asia 2024, is set to take place from 6 to 7 March 2024 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre. Building on the success of Drones Asia 2023, DUCA 2024 is primed to be the essential meeting place for the region's expanding unmanned aircraft systems and uncrewed technology ecosystem.

The event comprises a trade show, start-up zone, main stage conference and programme of technical presentations. Presentations and panel discussions will delve into the transformative trends in air mobility markets across the ASEAN region, and the crucial need for collaboration between regulators, end users, and technology platforms. Entrance is free for Trade Visitors who register by 12 February 2024. AAIS/SG UAS Community members will also enjoy a 15% discount off the regular conference ticket rate. Drone Enable Symposium

(5-7 Dec 2023, Montreal)

The ICAO Drone Enable 2023 symposium was held in December 2023 at ICAO's HQ in Montreal, with a particular focus on innovation and infrastructure development. Topics covered include communications, navigation and surveillance and spectrum (CNSS) requirements in low-level airspace, the industry and regulator’s perspective on unmanned aircraft systems traffic management (UTM), unauthorized unmanned aircraft (UA) operations, remote ID in the UTM environment, advanced air mobility (AAM) global interoperability and harmonization requirements, etc.
