Advisory Circular (AC 21-7) on Certification, Design and Production of Articles by Additive Manufacturing
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) issued an advisory circular on 26 May 2023 providing information and guidance on the use of additive manufacturing in design activities and in the production of articles under Singapore Airworthiness Requirements (SAR) Part 21. AC 21-7 is applicable to applicants and holders of SAR Part 21 design and production organisation approvals.
The guidelines cover processes and areas of assessment for incorporating, outsourcing or amending any design or production process involving the use of Additive Manufacturing by Design Organisation Approval holder (DOA) and Production Organisation Approval holder (POA). In Singapore, all modifications and repairs done on Singapore-registered aircraft will need to be approved by CAAS.

ASEAN Air Transport Working Group Sustainability Forum
AAIS members were invited to the 3rd ASEAN Sustainability Forum held on 17 May 2023 on the sidelines of the ASEAN Air Transport Working Group’s meeting in Singapore. CAAS Chief Sustainability Officer Daniel Ng chaired the forum with speakers from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; Federal Aviation Administration; European Union Aviation Safety Agency; as well as industry representatives from Airbus, Singapore Airlines, and Malaysia Aviation Group.
Participants learnt about how the various regulators were facilitating SAF adoption, including policymaking and planning for decarbonisation, supply chain and infrastructure. Airbus' Asia Pacific President, Anand Stanley, spoke of the company’s efforts to address sustainability across the three ‘scopes’ and how it was developing aircraft technologies for the future. Chen Fook Ping (Singapore Airlines) and Philip See (Malaysia Aviation Group) shared the airlines' perspective on achieving net zero. AAIS was privileged to support the event and facilitate industry participation in person and online.
